Guard Well The Brave Old Banner
Which Once So Proudly Waived
Above The Serried Ranks, Whose Deeds
Their Country's Honor Saved.
Remember When Triumphant
Amid The Battle Smoke,
The Starry Splendor Of It's Folds
A Nation's Plaudits Woke.
At Clover Hills, Port Walthall,
Swift Creek, And Drewry's Bluff,
Cold Harbor, Siege of Petersburg,
Fort Harrison So Rough,
Fair Oaks, Fort Gilmer, Rowlett's House,
Fort Gregg and Hatcher's Run,
Rice Station and Appomattox Last,
Victorious It Shone.
What Though Its Once Bright Colors
Are Dimmed By Many A Fight!
The Spotless Glory Of Its Fame
Shall Shine Forever Bright.
Then Guard This Priceless Treasure,
Whose Legends, Old And Worn,
A Stainless Record Shall Proclaim
To Thousands Yet Unborn.
